Blackface
Head of Atlantic records UK has resigned because seven years ago he went to a party dressed as one of his hero’s from RUN DMC.

This was his resignation letter

It is with great sadness that today I announce I am stepping down as President of Atlantic Records, UK.

“Seven years ago, at a birthday party where guests were asked to come dressed as their favorite musical icon, I came as a member of Run DMC. Late last year rumors began to circulate about my appearance at that event, many of which are simply untrue. While my intention was to honor a musical hero, I recognize my appearance was offensive and I made a terrible mistake.

“As a consequence of this, I readily agreed to disciplinary actions by my employer last year. Since then, however, allegations surrounding the party have continued to be made against me. Moreover, they have been used against a wonderful company and the label I love. I have therefore come to the conclusion that I should make this statement and step down, with immediate effect.

“I am devastated that this mistake has caused upset and has called into question my commitment to diversity, equality and inclusion, values which I have championed throughout my career. I have learned a great deal from this event and will resolutely continue to champion these values moving forward.

“It has been an incredible privilege to have worked with the immensely talented artists, managers and team at Atlantic and the wider Warner family.

“I unreservedly apologize to anyone who has been hurt.”

People have to realise there is a huge difference between blackface and dressing up as someone...

Regardless of the rights and wrongs...

What was he thinking? He must have known what the reaction would be? He must be incredibly thick.

Still find it strange that this sort of thing offends people, but it's like that and that's the way it is!

Re: Blackface
We live in strange times, everything is offensive to someone somewhere.

Read Rod Liddles book called " whining monkeys ", he explains it nicely.

Re: Blackface
I find this story strange. I know of the bloke and lots of people like him can be very “outgoing”. He has signed some big black British acts and would always have been around a lot of ethic diversity and attitudes. The general response from black British musicians has been “ is this for real?”. “ Worlds gone mad”. So, something has happened that has weaponised this for someone’s purpose as is usually the case but you can’t imagine this being a thing in the past.

Re: Blackface
it's no different to any of the other 100s of stories of its kind - the fact it takes you to 'know of' the victim of this sort of shit says more about you than it does about anything else.

Stewie Griffin has a black face.

I've nothing else to add to this thread.

I would have thought having a personal connection with a story makes it more relevant

Re: Blackface
I’m sure it does.

However, anyone with a brain cell finds ALL of these stories ‘strange’, or more accurately, fucking ridiculous.

You are part of the group – who do not fit into the aforementioned possessors of brain cells - who normally applauds calling out things like this as ‘racist’, and as such are a contributor to these sorts of ridiculous attitudes. Until you have an extremely tenuous ‘personal connection’ to it – then it’s strange, and wouldn’t have happened in the past.

Re: Blackface
Branded

I think its best for him to get out of the spotlight and kill the story. He'll be back in a few years as he is pretty good at what he does.

I'd be shocked if he isn't running a major in another territory in a few years or back in Europe.

Pretty dumb thing to do, but I judge things in context and how things were at the time. (otherwise half of the tv execs would be arrested for love thy neighbour!). It's also its best to judge a person by what his peers think and I doubt any of them think he's some hardened racist.

But we must all play politics sometimes.. its the way of the world.

Should be jailed and stripped of all his possesions and wealth, this is the thin end of the wedge, how dare he THINK he has offened millions of people and caused them shame.

Hanging is too good for him.

Re: Blackface
I went to the Hong Kong Sevens a few years back with a black girl and a mixed race girl, I dressed up as Mr T from the A Team and had a fat suit on, gold chains, mohican the lot. The mixed race girl also put all the make up on and blacked me up.

I was speaking to her a little while back and she has now decided that what we did was racist and wrong.

She always had a touch of the "markles" about her even back then saying i wouldn't know what it was like as i wasn't a person of colour, she was never racially abused but felt she needed to play the victim and stand for the cause.

However 8 years on she now needs to be part of the victims that are now offended by it.

Surely she would have been offended all those years ago when she had the same views, but aparently not.

Not sure what the moral of the story is, but i blacked up, i'm not racist, we all had fun, but people today are far too fucking picky about a problem that isn't there just so they can now be offended and blame someone.

Country dogs etc
